A Brief Overview
Performs a variety of preparatory, scrubbing and related duties necessary to provide patient care in the Operating Room. Assist with surgical cases in all surgical specialties.

Essential Functions

Reviews case cart and preference card before each case. Prepares the operating room by supplying it with supplies and instruments to provide appropriate patient care Sets up and maintains the sterile field during the procedure using strict aseptic technique Prepares and labels fluids and medications on sterile field Performs appropriate counts prior to the operation and before incision is closed. Participates in time out/sign out process
Scrubs to assist the surgeon in the completion of surgical procedures by demonstrating a working knowledge of surgical instrumentation and equipment needed for a variety of procedures. Anticipates the needs of the surgeon, passing instruments and providing sterile items in an efficient manner, as directed by the surgeon/proceduralist. Implements sharps safety practices including use of a safety zone. Prepares specimens for pathologic analysis
Cleans and prepares instruments for terminal sterilization Assists operating room team with environmental cleaning and case turnovers. Stores and stocks supplies as needed Participates in assigned on call activities.
Regular attendance at work is an essential function of the job.

Education Qualifications

Graduate from an accredited school or university as Surgical Technologist or applicable surgical technology course of study Required or
Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) Required

Licenses and Certifications

Current and valid Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association Required and
Current and valid Surgical Technologist certification Preferred and
If position filled by an LPN, current and valid LPN license for NE/IA depending on state of residency Required
