A Brief Overview
Provides leadership and direction in managing all day-to-day operations for the Hybrid Catheterization Suite. Has 24/7 accountability for assigned areas. Maintains positive working relationships and open communication throughout the organization. Ensures the provision of high quality, age appropriate patient care, and continuously looks for opportunities for improvement. Accountable for developing, supporting, and monitoring operational and organizational goals. Works in concert with the Cardiac Service Line Director and the Medical Directors for Interventional Cardiology and Electrophysiology to execute and achieve performance standards.

Essential Functions

Ensures administration of high quality patient care. Coordinates achievement of clinical and operational outcomes. Monitors the effectiveness/efficiency of area systems to support the delivery of high quality patient care, implementing changes as necessary. 

  • Contributes to the changes and improvement of patient care practices. 
  • Monitors clinical operations and quality metrics using EPIC based reports and other data sources. Adjusts operations accordingly to meet goals. 
  • Role models and is a resource for age specific patient care delivery 
  • Daily reconciliation of billing 
  • Monitors physician availability and consistency of clinical schedule 
  • Readily responds to fluctuating staffing needs to maintain appropriate levels. 
  • Maintains appropriate records(s) of all procedures as indicated by the Department of Cardiology, Health Information Systems, other hospital departments, governmental agencies or national quality organizations. 
  • Responsible for maintenance of appropriate administrative records. 
  • Keeps current and investigates evolving techniques or new information as it pertains to pediatric or adult congenital cardiovascular procedures. 
  • Participates in emergency on-call for the department on an as needed basis. 
  • Participates in developing, implementing, and evaluating standards of care, scope of practice, and department policies and procedures.

Manages and provides direction to the cath lab staff. Personnel Management Selects/hires employees and trains and/or oversees the training on job related tasks. 

  • Conducts employee performance management duties including completion and delivery of performance evaluations, setting goals, dissemination of information, coaching, addressing performance issues/routine correction actions, and recommending termination of employment. 
  • Makes salary recommendations. 
  • Submits notifications for personnel actions (e.g., status changes, terminations). 
  • Makes recommendations for human resource needs. Operational/Financial Management 
  • Responsible for the implementation and execution of business plans or activities for the department. May assist in the development of business plans. 
  • Makes decisions guided by the business plan and resource availability that impacts service levels and the teams ability to meet objectives. 
  • Analyzes processes and procedures and makes recommendations and/or decisions on guidelines for daily processes/activities within department. May recommend policy changes related to the department. Implements new or revised policies, processes, and procedures within the work area. 
  • Develops the annual budget, monitors and prepares budget variance reports for the department. 
  • Applies business and management expertise to identify problems/opportunities, determine solutions, and measure results. 
  • Ensures compliance with quality assurance, safety practices, policies, regulatory, and legal requirements.

Responsible for quality control and maintenance of the lab and its equipment. Working with the Supply Chain Inventory Specialist, maintains sufficient inventory for routine and emergency procedures. 

  • This includes maintaining contacts with manufacturer representatives of equipment and supplies relating to catheterization procedures. 
  • Assists with new procedure and product development for use in trans-catheter treatment of congenital heart disease by researching and evaluating new techniques or through assisting physicians at the NHS/UNMC animal research facility catheterization laboratory. 
  • Assists the Medical Directors and Quality team with all information and studies pertaining to quality assurance and quality improvement.

Assists in the implementation of the strategic direction within the department to ensure efficient and effective day-to-day operations by adhering to sound methods of financial planning and fiscal responsibility, responsible business and resource management practices and hospital policies. Identifies, justifies and coordinates the evaluation of major purchases for the suite. 

  • Develops and implements goals, objectives, plans and policies to achieve selected outcomes as established by hospital Senior Leadership, state, federal, healthcare and other accrediting and regulatory bodies by allocating and managing resources appropriately. 
  • Develops, reviews, and revises department policies and procedures on an ongoing basis to assure compliance with hospital standards and accrediting bodies.


Education Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in radiology, nursing or related health science field Required

Experience Qualifications

  • 4-6 years experience in cardiac catheterization laboratory Required and
  • Minimum three (3) years experience in pediatric catheterization Required and
  • Previous supervisory or lead experience Preferred

Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledgeable in all areas of pediatric invasive cardiology.
  • Knowledgeable and experienced with computer applications.
  • Must demonstrate advanced communication skills with subordinate staff, coworkers, administration, physicians, patients and families.
  • Recognizes the importance of effective communication and leads by example.
  • Demonstrates initiative, self direction, and personal accountability.
  • Analytical ability to participate in departmental budget planning, monitoring and management.

Licenses and Certifications

  • RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure Required or
  • ARDMS or ARRT - Radiographer Required and
  • BCLS - Basic Life Support Required and
  • PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support Required and
  • ACLS Required
